Carleton Bulkin is a community member on the GCGP board. He has a progressive, inherited retinal disorder and represents the Usher Syndrome Coalition in Washington state. He is especially interested in diagnosis delivery and follow-up, patient vs. caregiver responses to diagnosis, and in promoting a holistic approach to both diagnosis and life management with a genetic disorder.
Carleton has a BA in Russian Language and Literature from UC Davis and an MA in Slavic Languages and Literatures from Indiana University. As a career Foreign Service Officer, he served in Prague, Havana, Moscow, Budapest, Kabul, Rabat, Jeddah, and Washington, D.C., working on a range of policy and management issues and retiring in 2017. He is the author of a Dari-English/English-Dari dictionary and has translated several literary and scholarly translations from Czech into English. He is an avid reader, and his hobbies include classical guitar, bridge, and fitness.
