The UW Genetic Counseling Graduate Program (UW GCGP) is a self-sustaining, fee-based program administered by the UW Department of Medicine’s Division of Medical Genetics in partnership with UW Continuum College.
Costs
Course fees are charged on a per-credit basis and are the same for resident (Washington state) students and nonresident students.
Students also pay mandatory university fees each quarter, including fees for registration, technology, and a U-PASS (public transportation). Based on current rates, the total cost of these fees over the six quarters of the program is estimated to be approximately $2,700.
Payment is due by the third Friday of the quarter. Costs for textbooks and other course materials are extra.

The UW GCGP fee rate is subject to annual increases. We recommend that students budget for a 3-4% fee increase each academic year.

To calculate your estimated cost of attendance, add the amount in the “Cost for First Year Student” column for the year you matriculate to the amount in the “Cost for Second Year Student” column for your second academic year, plus the additional fees.
For example, the total estimated cost for a student starting at the UW GCGP in Fall 2023 and graduating in March 2025 would be:
$56,626 + $25,360 + $2,700 = $84,686
Please note that this estimate does not include living expenses, such as room and board.
Financial Aid
Students in the GCGP can apply for various forms of financial aid to help cover their educational costs, including federal financial aid, scholarships, and loans.
