Overview
About Us
The GCGP DEIJ (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice) committee is a student-led group consisting of current and past students from the UW GCGP. This group is open to all students from the UW GCGP. We are guided by the mission and core values below.
Mission
We strive to promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in our greater UW genetic counseling community by fostering meaningful and productive dialogue and activities in these areas. Our goal is to create spaces, host events, and develop resources that further DEIJ within the UW GCGP and genetic counseling community at large. We approach this work geared for justice; with an informed perspective on the systemic discrimination of marginalized groups and the many ways it impacts genetic counseling.
Values
- We hold a shared commitment to ensuring that all students, faculty, and patients feel supported and empowered.
- We value cultural humility, safer spaces, and learning from and amplifying underrepresented voices.
- We encourage conversations among ourselves and program leadership to hold ourselves and our community members accountable for the biases we have.
